Hi ....

I am looking to add either the Chromecast ultra or another Chromecast audio to my avr for adding music streaming in my HT setup. I already have a roku ultra so don't need 4k video. So the only reason I am considering the Chromecast ultra is because it can be hardwired to Ethernet to avoid dropouts. So has anyone used the previous gen Chromecast or the present Chromecast ultra for music streaming from tidal or Spotify. Thanks .

Basically use it as a 2.0 system.
Chromecast straight into the HDMI on my Nad M51 dac to Genelec 8050's (so I have 2 - 8" subs), upgraded from Spotify to Tidal.
Tidal's good, but I find it glitchy in comparison to Sonos and Spotify. Dunno if this is down to the IT connection or just the tech is getting too complicated for it's own good.
The step up in SQ is great, worth the issues. As an experiment I stuck a 65" plasma above the fireplace, wife has a video playlist (which she's now addicted to). Somebody else recently posted about the validity of going 2.0 and I totally get it...
Netflix, YouTube thru the Chromecast, log fire on and pretty severe minus temperatures in the winter (Calgary), just cozy.
Don't have a 4K TV so it doesn't warrant me going ultra at the mo', but saw a 50" oled TV for the equivalent of 450 quid which is tempting.
For 20 or 30 quid the Chromecast is worth it for the convenience...
I'm sold!

Just the recommendation I needed. Even my wife has lots of video playlists on YouTube, so the Chromecast made more sense than the CCA. But wasn't sure if it only streamed video or could do tidal and Spotify too. Thanks for clearing that :)

I use the 'my music app' on my roku to play music from my nas. But it doesn't stream yet. So needed an alternative. I am all set now I guess :)

Gapless playback is still not available on Chromecast using Spotify, (They keep saying its coming) also Deezer was the same but may do gapless now. (You will need to check) If you are using your tablet or phone you can mirror it on Chromecast and gapless is then supported. (However it’s not quite as good as just using your tablet/phone to cast the apps to Chromecast)

You can hardwire any of the Chromecast range, the Ultra is just the only one that ships with Ethernet adapter in the box.

Google sell the adapter separately

Or there are slightly cheaper third party adapters that work equally well Available on Amazon
