what, when compared to the Chord Carnival Silver plus that I have?

Cabling is some 8 years old, no doubt there are improvements and I hear/read a lot about how good the Rumour cable is.............so what would it give me.................?

Before you waste your money, try disconnecting the cables, cleaning and reconnecting.

Good advice, something that I do about every 9 months, however still interested in the Rumour

Fair enough, didn't know that.

Go for the Odyssey for a decent improvement. I went from the bi-wire version of what you have to the Odyssey 2 single wire. The key change was more and better bass.

Interesting choice.

My current set up is bi-amped from the Yamaha, was thinking of doing the same thing with the Odyssey cable.

Would this alter your thinking at all?

Well the Odyssey 4 is quite an expensive cable and I've only tried the 2. I'm unsure what the Rumour would give you. It's a thinner gauge than the Odyssey so maybe there won't be much difference. I borrowed the Odyssey from a dealer and felt the improvement worth the spend. Can you do the same?

I did mean that I would bi-amp the Rumour (not Odyssey......................stupid boy Pike!) in my system

trying to establish what the merits could be?

Sorry, I'm confusing the query with more variables!

The Rumour has 1.5mm conductors, the Odyssey 2mm. When I changed from Carnival SP biwire I found a small improvement in the bass with the Odyssey and a touch more clarity. Not massive but worth the change. My point is that I suspect the cost of upgrading isn't worth it for the Rumour. Just an opinion.

It's probably worth the cost saving buying some used Odyssey 4 (perhaps from the Bay?) rather than buying new Rumour. OK, you can't audition the cable this way but if it means that you can have Odyssey over Rumour it's probably a good move.

£140 ish on the bay for Rumour 4, seems reasonable for 2 x 2m fully terminated?

Might give it a go

Dont go for the rumour, do the oddy cable. Buy it second hand from flea bay and you will get a better cable all around.

And one final question before taking the leap and tracking down Odyssey

It will be used on my fronts (bi-amped from the yamaha) and centre.............still worthwhile yes?

It really is a sod that you can't demo speaker cable...................

You can demo the cable if your on good terms with your local dealer. Tried atlas hyper 2 and 3 first, then tried the qed revelation and bout that one. But after a house move, I needed 10 metres of the stuff and it was going to cost me a fortune, so won 10 or so metres from ebay of the oddy for £66.

Top cable for the money, but would rather the qed.

managed to get a couple of lengths of Odyssey 4 off of the Bay for Left and Right

just need a metre or so for the centre then I can set it up.................watch this space
