Hi guys. Embarrassingly noobish question but I'm trying to match some passive speakers to an amp. These are the speakers: http://www.monitoraudio.co.uk/products/silver/silver-2 The max RMS on them is 120. Not sure whether I therefore need an amp with 240 output power to get the most out of them (120 x 2) or whether something less powerful will do the job. Having blown the budget on the speakers I’m looking to scrimp a bit on the amp (£200 is my budget). Somebody recommended the ONKYO A9010, but has only 88w output power. Any guidance much appreciated!

The Onkyo will do nicely. The max power rating is a recommended figure. Amps output the quoted amount to each speaker so no need to double the power output as you have done.

Personally I would source a s/h Cyrus III.

I can't comment on the Onkyo other than that you get a full warranty with it as opposed to none when buying second hand.

Onkyo A-9010 has garnered great reviews at a very good price. Just try to get a listen to it. Compare to others. Then feedback to the forum and tell us what you think

cheers tonky
