hi all, i've got a PS3 and want a temp setup that includes High-Def sound for my blurays etc. on a tight budget so was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the best value all-in-one package that'll accept PCM thru HDMI to achieve this etc. seen the sony one's online for about £250-anygood?

cheers.

about £200 but will go to £300 if needed to achieve better quality etc.

Have you seen this? A fairly new Onkyo all in one system that can handle HD audio. It basically has an AV receiver type thing built in the Sub unit. Two HDMI inputs, optical input too, among others.

It's sold at £299.99 for the 2.1 system but you can upgrade it to 5.1 (at the time of purchase or later) for an extra £100. Seems cracking value to me.

Hi butch, sorry i've taken so long to reply, be busy.

You could also checkout the Sony HT-SF1300 5.1 @ £299.99 (speakers on stands) or the SS1300 5.1 @ £279.99 (same system but with satalite speakers) at Play.com. The amp takes 2 or 3 hdmi in and 1 out and accepts LPCM which the ps3 outputs via hdmi so you'll get all the latest hd audio, also has 1080p passthru for lovely blueray video.

Let me know how you get on, happy hunting.

cheers for the replies guys. the onkyo sounds great but want 5.1 etc and even tho great value would exceed my budget! have checked out the sony alan, think it'll be perfect for my needs of cheap HD sound.

many thanxs for your research and quick replies. i'm off to listen to some PCM!!

Butch - I was about to make the same Onkyo recommendation. The full 5.1 might exceed your budget now, but at least you can add the extra speakers when you have more funds. Many people start with a 3.1 systems and buy rears later to give them a better system in the long run.

Has anyone here personal experience of the Onkyo system mentioned ?

Glad to be of help butch, i've been given plenty of free advice on this site so it's nice to be able to give something back.

Good luck

Alan
