Hi fellas

Thinking of swapping my Denon for a Yamaha Z7, just fancy a change really. Would the Yamaha Z7 be a step back as the Denon retailed at over 2k when it was first out?

Thanks 🙂

Stick with the Denon. If you're going to upgrade, you'll be looking at Denon's AVCA1HDA, Yamaha's DSPZ11, or a pre/power combo like the Onkyo or Marantz.

Hi JohnHolmes

The Denon is a very good amplifier. Try and compare Yamaha's DSP-Z7 to the Denon as this is the only way you're likely to know.

Thanks

I agree with David. If you do take that step I would hold off for now. Buying in September time will give you far more choice at the £2k and beyond price point.

Apart from the hd audio decoding, which can be solved by a pre-out enabled Bluray player, you will get no real benefits for the money spent, the denon is a great amp and a change could be a downgrade in terms of final quality to money spent.

Thanks for the replies 🙂

I shall try save up a little more and look for something a little better.

M&K 750s, CS22 surrounds, V850 sub, Pioneer 5090 Plasma, Panny BD35.

Not going to replace the sub or the 750s, until I have a dedicated room. Which then I will be buying M&K S150s and a M&K MX350 Sub, unless Ken Kreisel new products are better. Not interested in 3d tvs at all. Plan on buying a Oppo bluray player when my panny packs up.

🙂

Reading about your intended speaker upgrade you should consider a Z11 instead of the Z7 to drive MK-S-150's

Thats the advice I recieved from David at Frank Harvey's he is an experienced M&K user

I'm personally looking forward to seeing what Ken comes up with too. I use S150's with a VX850, and it scares me as to how much better it could get, should Ken produce something even better, which I'm sure he will! I'll be passing on news about this as and when I get it.....

Great will look out for any news from you! Would my Denon be good enough to drive S150s? Also is there a huge difference in between the 850 and MX350?

Thanks

Your Denon will be fine with the S150's. In fact, your Denon will drive them better than the DSPZ7 would.

There is quite a difference between the 850 and 350. The current 350 uses a 400w digital amplifier, whereas the 850 is a 250w Class A/B amplifier, and the 350 also uses two 12" drivers instead of the single one of the 850. Depth, power and headroom are a few of the characteristics that the 350 will give you over your current 850.

Thanks for the reply David.
