I have a denon dht-500sd home theatre system, but i am looking to change the dvd player to a blue ray player but still using the existing surround sound speakers, is this possible(price is an issue cheapest first). neil .richards

The Denon DHT-500SD does have an optical input on the back. You could just buy a standalone Blu-Ray player & connect it to the Denon using an optical lead. The Denon DHT-500SD would amplify the audio from the standalone Blu-Ray player & output it through the Denon's speakers. You would need to keep the DVD part of your Denon as that does all of the amplification & connections. You would get standard 5.1 Dolby Digital & DTS using this method.

Options to consider are Sony S760 & Panasonic BD80 (which have analogues) for example.
