CDA files

Hi i have a load of tapes that i want to convert to cd so i can use in the car

Problem is my car cd doesnt recognise MP3 WMA compressd files etc

I notice when u put an original cd in a computer the files are called .CDA which from what i can make out is the indusrty standard for original shop bought cds

Is it possible to convert the tapes to that format or do ordinary cd players recognise Windows WAV files ? or any other uncompressed file?

.cda is just an index placeholder, and doesn't contain audio, so is a red herring. If you record your tapes into your PC (via the 'mic in' being the simplest way), you can use any format you like (mp3, WMA, lossless audio, though 'WAV' will probably be the default), because your media player will allow you to burn it to a proper "audio CD" which will play in your car - not a "data" one, which would contain mp3 or WMA files, for example.

Ok thanks John see what u mean now .Have already got some tapes converted to MP3 on my pc ,so what u are saying if i use Microsoft media player to burn them to cd it will convert them back to "audio format" and work on any cd player?

Correct, though make sure that if there's a setting to default to "audio CD" rather than "data CD", that "audio" is selected (I'm on a Mac now so can't look).
