CD playr DAC if amp has one?

The filters are offered as they are cheap to provide and they think it helps sell the product as some people feel theyre getting something extra. It's BS. I'm not sure how we got sidetracked into filters though.

From a technical perspective the best filter cuts everything above Nyquist frequency as fast as possible. You can read up on that at your leisure.
I am sure I can however your entry at post #15 is meaningles and purely a personal.opinion.
 
i have a Audiolab 8300 cd player which has the same DAC as the Arcam A15 which type of connection would be best analogue or digital they both have the ESS es2018 DAC does it make a difference???

Welcome to the forum!

I’d always try the CD player with its analogue outputs first, as that’s how it was designed. Then once you’re familiar with the sound, you can try using ‘digital out’ from the CDP to a digital input on your A15. You may well have coaxial or optical possibilities. (I’m too tired to look it up)

Bear in mind these alternatives may not deliver an identical volume, and ears notice that difference before anything else. However, you can chose whatever you like best. There may be different DAC filter settings too if your ears can detect the differences - check you handbooks for the menu of settings. (I think both use ESS9018 designs)
