Hi. I have an old Cambridge Audio dvd player DVD57 which I only use to play cds because it sounds good. It is hooked to my onkyo 606. Will the sound get even better if I upgrade it to a dedicated cd player such as (CA azur 540c v2 or a marantz cd5003)? Thanks!

I can't speak for those specific cd players, but the first time i experienced the difference between a dvd player (samsung ****) and a dedicated cdp (Marantz CD6002), i had a jaw dropping sensation. It was the epiphany that started my hi fi obsession.

Hogman. That is interesting as I understand what you are saying but you would time that sensation fourfold if you hooked your 5i up with a stereo amp instead of the 605.

I'm on the threshold of making that upgrade. Just in the process of moving house at the moment, and have been told in no uncertain terms that i have to wait until we've moved before spending anymore money on an upgrade.

One annoyance is that your Onkyo doesn't have pre outs for the stereo amp so you won't be able to use your front two with both amps. The new 606 doesn't either or the Denon 1909.

Yeh, it's a shame because the Onk is great for films, so i'd of liked to keep it for that. I've got it covered though, i'm looking at getting the Yamaha 3800 which has some great deals on it at the moment.

Once thats in place i'm going to demo as many Hi Fi amps as i can.
