Any body else had this same problem? Firmware up to date and plays other disks such as quantum of solace...

Hmm strange one. I have a problem with Trespass on my Pioneer player but it works on others. If the FW is up to date as you say you may need to send the disc to your BD player manufacurer so the can get round the issue and send out an new FW upgrade to solve the problem. Contact them and see. Also try someone elses copy especially if they have a different version.

I'm guessing this is the first time you have tried watcing the film in this player?

Yeah it worked on my pioneer lx71, so not sure what the problem is. The disk may be damaged but I can't see any scratches or marks on there.

I'll speak to Peter Tyson to see if it is a problem with the Denon..

Cheers

Is your Denon better than the LX71 or did it pack up on you? I have the LX71, it's go t great picture. I know some of the Denon transport players were superb for picture. What made you change?

In terms of bluray picture quality, no difference at all. My tv has been calibrated and I've switched all the processing off on the denon, so the tv does it all. All bluray players should be the same when playing BDs. For DVDs, this is a different story and is where you will see a difference between players.

i changed the 71 because I wanted 3d and the denon will go with my new denon av amp the x4000 for the denon link for sound, when it arrives. Oh and it's quicker at loading disks, but any reasonable cheap player will be as quick.

cheers

Fair enough. Yeah the 71 is a little slow loading and turning on.

I have and LX70 that I got from my old job. There is a clear difference in picture quality between the 2 players. The 71 is clearer and more detailed in my book.

At my last job we had 3 oppo players just sitting there. We were usinf PS3s for our QC testing, mainly for the display and what flags it showed us. When I connected up one of the Oppos the difference in pic quality was quite a lot. I had all the setting on the PS3 correct too. Even the regular sony BD players we had were not as good picture wise.

I have a Pansonic DMR BWT720 and it plays Quantum Solace and Casino Royale no problem. The car chase between the Aston & Alfas is superb in Quantum Solace!!

Best Wishes

Chris

I must have a faulty disk because all my other BDs play and Peter Tyson say there are known issues with this disk.

Hello again.

It's rarly an issue with the disc. The fact it plays in your LX71 means the disc is fine. It is a compatibility issue with the player. I don't think many authoring houses do much if any compatibility testing when they manufacture BDs. The company I worked for didn't. Clients can't afford to pay for it. Some do and would use a 3rd party QA company like the other company I used to work for.

It frustrates me that things are costing so much that basically the end user is neglected more and more. As long as the client gets their disc out and it works in some machine means it should work in most.

Have you tried contacting Denon to see about sending them the disc so they can try to rectify the problem with a firmware upgrade?

Sorry should have explained in more detail; it played on the 71 when I last played the disk about a year ago but I don't have this player any more and can't check it. I only have the denon which it won't play on...

If it played on the 71 the disc is fine. You wouldn't need to check it as the properties of the disc won't change plus I've just loaded it into my LX71. The only reason it doesn't work on the Denon is the player is not currently compatible with th disc. Of course it playes other BDs fine but it doesn't like this one. You need to contact denon and ask them if they can do anything about it. It shouldn't cost anything apart from postage. You just send them the disc if they don't already have a copy and they should find a way to get the firmware to play the disc. Then they issue the firmware update which of course you do on the player and it should then play the disc.
