I've been meaning to put my old Kef kube 1 on eBay since Christmas, but I've never got round to it. So today I through I would visit my local cash converters to see what they would offer, on eBay they are going for about 120 to 160 and all I wanted was about 100, after abit of negotiating they gave me 90, I thought that was a reasonable price for that type of shop. No messing about with eBay and trying to post a big item, any thoughts?

It depends on what you would have lost with ebay charges/Paypal fees/postage etc. and what price you put on side-stepping the whole hassle and potential delays* of ebay.

*I once sold a Nikon photo negative/slide scanner (on 'Buy It Now') for £550 but had to wait 2 weeks for payment due to the buyer being a first timer who hadn't bothered to set up a PayPal accound before bidding and had to set one up from scratch. I got the payment eventually and we were all ok about it, but it was a pain.

When I sold the Naim nSat speakers I got a lot of queries from people who (a) wanted to try them out at home first before paying (b) wanted me to send them opinions on how they compared to whole lists of other speakers! (c) wanted to come to my house with their system and compare with their present speakers.

Eventually I got a straightforward customer who just wanted to buy what I was selling and understood that I wasn't a reviewing service, nor owned a demo lounge or hifi dealership, nor offered free home equipment loans!

I've sold loads on eBay in the past, and made some good money. I couldn't be doing with the questions and time wasters may be I could have got 20-30 pounds more after costs, but its gone and I have the cash.

I have an old LG DVD player ( lost remote ) and an old LG DVD / VHS combo to sell.

The same LG DVD / VHS combo was on ebay the other day ( not mine obviously ) and did not sell for a starting price of £4.99.

Was therefore thinking of taking them to cash convertors for exactly the same reason.

I know I wont get much but was wondering how much they would offer me ?

Are cash convertors rip off people or has anyone else sold a near equivilant to what Im going to sell ?

£90 is not a bad price imo for what you sold. How did you haggle them up ? Any advice please.

Trouble is old DVD players really aren't worth anything, especially when you can buy them new for £20, eBay's already told you that, CC won't offer you much, if anything, they need to make a profit on it remember, if they don't think they can sell it, it isn't worth anything to them.

Check out your local freegle site.Sometimes there is an associated local site where you can sell things and collect/deliver . Alternatively freecycle them to the not so well off.
