Captain Phillips and Gravity are rubbish!

I really enjoyed the sound/musical score of Gravity and the 3D effects in the cinema were amazing. Yes the plot is thin and the dialogue hammy but overall it just works as a technical advancement. I wouldn't buy it on blu ray for home use though unless I had a massive 3D projector or 85" TV as the effect would be lost on a smaller screen.

Captain Phillips was solid but nothing extraordinary, apart from the actor playing the lead pirate. However, knowing how the true story ended before I saw the film removed most of the dramatic tension of the climax.

I've watched Gravity 3 times this week since It's bluray release on Monday!!

I'm heavily into astronomy, love any kinda film to do with space and Gravity is stunning both in visuals and sound.

It doesn't need a heavy in depth story line, you just take the film as is, just doing a shuttle mission repair and a tragic incident occurs!

Although there wasn't much in story line and even character development I still felt connected to the Sandra Bullock character. I love it!!!

As for Captain Phillips? I thought it was a great movie, not sure if it's a movie I'd go back to on a regular basis, maybe a once a year viewing.

You mean Hollywood didn't change the ending? Very unusual.

Finished Pan's Labyrinth - is that the fastest anyone has watched a recommendation? :)

No, I watched Le Quattro Volte on fast forward because it was so dull.

Oh, and you're on the wrong thread. Do you mind repeating what you said on there, so I can then repeat my joke?

Then just pretend you've never heard it. ;)

Well, you probably weren't, but I can take it.

(Sob.)

Anyway, all of my next three films have dialogue and I don't think any has a goat.

You'll be pleased to hear that we've repeated the joke on the Film Club thread.

I was taking the piss, in case anyone was wondering. Good job I'm not a mod, I'd have handed you all each other's email addresses and locked the thread before it got to the end of the first page. No room for exclusivity here.

Anyone's free to watch the films and contribute to the discussion or general conversation, as I understand there was only 'membership' in order that films could sensibly be proposed and voted on. So it's not really exclusive, and you're more than welcome to pop in (not that you need me to say that).

Anyone else seen them what do you think? And they picked up awards! Total garbage is my view.

Name a few films you like

Black Hawk Down, Blood Diamond, Kick-Ass 2, Metallica Through The Never and the Batmams. Too many to list to be honest. :)

All rubbish. It explains your weird post at least.

I'm a bit worried I haven't seen the same two films that a lot of you are criticising...I saw Gravity in 3D Imax and was blown away, I was gripping the chair so tightly my knuckles were white. It was a true roller coaster ride like no other and watching the bluray this week at home just reaffirmed that to me and to pan the movie over a lack of story does sound like you just missed the point a little.

I really enjoyed Captain Phillips too but I came into that completely blind, it's by far Tom Hanks best performance in some time and I found the movie really entertaining and full of tension. I think it helped that it was based on a true story too, funnily enough the two movies share a distinctive way of shooting in that they use long continuous shots with very little editing to draw you in...I wonder if this jarred with some of you?
