This query I hope has a simple yes or no answer - too much technical detail will be lost on me.

Someone has offered me a Samsung BD1220 home theatre system, with a faulty blu ray player. This does not matter so long as I can connect the speakers to my existing Samsung BDP1500 blu ray player.

Please can you tell me if I can?

Thank you, that helps to know. So can I connect the speakers to the TV - Samsung Series 6, Model LE40A?

OK, so please can you tell me what can I do? Current configuration is a Samsung Series 6 LE40A TV, BDP1500 blu ray player and a Humax Foxsat HDR.

Thank you, our emails crossed. What make of amplifier would you suggest? And how much is this likely to cost?

When you say the Blu Ray player is faulty, in what way is it faulty? You may still be able to connect your BDP1500 to the BD1220 via an optical cable and use it's amplifier. That's all "if" though. If the whole unit is dead then it wouldn't work, but if it was just the Blu Ray drive or something that had failed, it may still function as an amp. You should test it out before dishing out any cash.

I can see that the easiest and not so much more expensive way forwards (if I have otherwise to buy an amp) would be to buy a complete blu ray home cinema system, selling my existing blu ray player to go towards paying for it.

Thank you for all the replies. Very much appreciated.

You don't need to sell your blu-ray player, you just need amp & speakers then connect your blu-ray to the amp, HDMI from amp to your tv then your done.
