Can new Blu Ray players play region 1 dvds and region2?

Am doing a loft conversion and putting in a cinema room up there. Want to get a new Blu Ray player but have lots of old region 1 and region2 dvds that i would like to play as well. What should i do?

Assuming you're buying in the UK, it'll play R2 DVDs. There are some sites claiming BD players converted to multiregion DVD playback, but we're yet to see these claims verified. I'd keep your DVD player for now.
