can i stop the sony bdp -S370 from upscaling automatically

Just wondering if the sony can be stopped from upscaling as for some older videos this is not doing any favours for the picture. The upscaling works well for most dvds and produces good results but does this automatically when I switch the player on.

It's in the video settings, I can't remember exactly what but it's fairly obvious.

Bear in mind that if the 370 isn't doing the upscaling, your TV will, so it may not look a great deal different, depending on the quality of the TV's upscaler (it might even look worse...).

For what it's worth I think the 370 upscales DVDs very well. Just watched Godfather again and have no desire to get the Blu-ray. It depends on the DVD as well e.g. Lord Of The Rings was unwatchable to me.

May I ask what you meant by 'too well'?

If ur watching old videos on a HDTV - something has to upscale the picture.

Otherwise u'd just have a small picture in the middle of the tv only using up about 1/5 of the screen.
