Can I screw through a speaker stand to fix it to the floorboards?

Hi there,

I have Atacama Nexus 10 speaker stands for my rear surround speakers in the living room. I also have a 1 year old baby who likes playing with the stands. They're spiked into the floor at the moment, but with full sized bookshelf speakers on top, they are more than an little top heavy (they are not currently ballast filled).

My question is whether or not it's OK to drill a hole (or more than one) through the baseplate and screw the stand directly into the floorboards underneath? I want to stop my inquisitive baby from toppling the lot and braining herself with my AE Aegis Evo 1 speaker.

Suggestions are very welcome!

I don't see why not...

I can't really see it affecting the sound and even if it did, a safe baby is more important.......just

i have my speakers stands screwed firmly to the floor
now,, after watching my beloved rogers ls3/5a knocked over onto the floor, the stands
were sitting on a thick pile carpet it nearly gave me a heart attack to see this happen
i now have them blu tac to the stands and firmly attached to the floor i also
think they sound better as well.

Thanks for the quick response guys. I have borrowed a good drill and will now do so.

Electric fence?

My little one won't go near my speakers. One little indiscretion...and now he knows better, the little monkey...
