i went and listened to one or two set ups in hughes and really liked the yamaha as500/cds300 and its given me a bit of food for thought so to speak.......the amp was punchy and powerful with good detail and had a bit more welly than my 603 ............so my question is .............is it possible to connect the amp the the marantz and stll use the cd and tuner sections whilst still having plenty more power

Yes, so long as you plug the 'Audio out' into an input on an integrated amp. (NOT a power amp.)

You'll need to select the function on the M-CR603 (CD, tuner, AUX, Music server or whatever) and operate volume on the integrated amp. (Bit of a faff swapping remotes.)
