Can Apple HomePod x2 be used as desktop speakers?

HomePods only work with Apple products. For sound quality & connectivity, I’d absolutely go with the Ruark MR1 mk2. Bought them for my brother as part of a simple vinyl setup & they sound pretty good.

I have 2 HomePod minis in my house. I love them for ease of use & consistency. They sound great for little speakers, but wouldn’t do any serious music listening on them.

I've had the Ruarks and found them kind of pointless.
Too small, too low, too integrated, too pricey. And there is no upgrade path... They only make sense if you want portability at expense of quality, e.g. get that power pack and carry them into garden or wherever.
Instead, Up your budget a little and get KEF Q150 + Burson Funk amp.
(Optional updates) Put V7 Vivid opamp in pre-stage, and V6 Vivid in amp gain stage, add MCP 3A power and - nirvana!
