As stated above, wondered whether having to use analogue outputs on BD85 will give a worse result than going via HDMI (which requires receiver upgrade). I know may be a little harder to set up, but dont mind as long as end result is as good,

Thanks

having looked at specs of both all i can find is - 192 kHz/24-bit - receiver is Onkyo TXSR505.

they both have that DAC but neither say anything more about it

RobinKidderminster:Different tack sorry but would I benefit from analogue output from my Sky +HD box ?No, because it only has stereo outputs, and the DACs are poor

Wow, I was just about to start a topic almost exactly the same as this!! I have questions regarding Multichannel Analogue on Blu Ray!

1. This is probably a stupid question, but is 7.1 analogue out the same quality as DTS HD Master Audio via HDMI??

2. I have a Denon 3800BD and an Onkyo 876. Supposedly, the Analogue DACs in the Denon are pretty good, but as I know absolutely nothing about it, does anyone know if they would be better then the Onkyo?

So would the real question is, would I get a better sound going the analogue route from the Denon than bitstreaming via HDMI??!

I also heard that rigging analogue is more complicated than just hooking up cables and getting perfect sound because of it.

Very confusing! Loads of questions, but if anyone can answer any one of them, that would be great!!!

Thanks!

1. Provided the 3800 will decode the Master Audio - outputting via the analogues will be the same quality.

2. The quality of the output as you mention above is down to the DAC quality. I auditoned the Denon and was very impressed with both multichannel music and stereo output through the analogue outputs. I have not heard the onkyo but It will have to be very very good to beat the Denon.

Set up using analogue is no harder than setting up HDMI - except the number of cables. You will also have to control the speaker output level / distance using the 3800 rather than the amplifier, which will just allow the signals to pass through.

I have the Pana BD50 connected to a Denon 2807 and have tried both HDMI and multi channel analogue outputs. I preferred the analogue sound to the HDMI as it produced a fuller sound with a little more low end oomph.

As my Denon cannot decode HD audio I let the player decode the soundtrack and send as PCM signal. One advantage that I have found recently on changing my previous HD ready TV to Full HD is that I now connect the HDMI directly to the TV and am still able to receive HD audio.

Hope this helps.
