Can an interconnect cable really tame a bright system?

Ive read so many references to cables being bright or smooth that im starting to wonder if their is something in the idea of cables acting like tone controls. My system on the whole sounds pretty much balanced, especially after buying a more powerful amp ( Roksan kandy) but my small monitor avi speakers can still sound bright with high freq extremes, in particular shouty female vocals.

Im wondering if any one has had experience with so called smoother interconnects ,like the Van den hul carbon types, in helping this problem?

I believe that cables can make a bit of a difference. I am a big advocate of working the room first. Positioning, furniture, wall hangings etc. can have a dramatic effect on the sound.

I have successfully used a pair VDH First Ultimate interconnects to tame a slightly bright sound, between amp and CD player. Of course, the change is a subtle one.

Yes, they can. I have experimented with various cables - QED, Chord, Wireworld etc etc with a wide variety of kit, and they do make a difference.

Audioquest Copperhead cables tamed a slightly bright Marantz 6010-KI and SA7001-KI CD pairing with my 752 speakers.
