Can a Blu-Ray player output to a stereo amp?

Okay, I know, I'm going to sound like a luddite.
However, as my CRT was dying, I've replaced it with a Panasonic TX-P42G10 and added Freesat.
I am considering buying a Blu-Ray player, however I do not have, nor do I have any interest in acquiring, a surround sound setup. Are there any Blu-Ray players that can output stereo into my Hi-Fi setup or am I stuck with:

1 Sound through the Panasonic's speakers only?

2 Routing the sound from the Panasonic to the Hi-Fi?

or is there a solution I haven't thought of?

Thanks

I'm sure its no problem but - add a sub to your TV and the difference is brilliant. (Even a cheap Yamaha 80w makes the sound sooo much better from the television).

Thank you both, will have to set some time aside for a wander around the shops.
I had thought with all this talk of HDMI and 7.1 audio that they wouldn't be backward compatible to stereo.
Unfortunately, I don't think the sub idea is soing to work. My wife has a condition which suffers quite badly when exposed to vibration. I assume that this means that the sub would make it worse, but will have to see if we can experiment.

you can always regulate the sound from the subwoofer.it doesn.t have to be very loud.just complement on the lower frequencies
