cambridge audio interconnets

Hi all,

I know this can be a rather controversial issue:
At the moment I am using CA's 900 series interconnects for my hifi setup and just wondering if they are good enough for my system.
Please advise if any (realistic) improvements can be had by replacing the cables.
I am using chord silverscreen for speakers.
Thanks

Please try and borrow some (or have the ability to return) and make up your own mind, as it will save us yet another cyclical, polemic thread, where you will learn precisely nothing!

Can you not try and borrow some different cables from your dealer to check it out?

Personally I have a budget £20 pair of Mark Grant I/C's between my Creek gear and not felt that I'm missing anything by not buying a more expensive set. I've also had the same Van Damme speaker cable for nearly 5 years now, and that replaced some considerably more expensive Chord Odyssey 2 cable.

PS: Mark Grant offer a money back guarantee if you're not happy so you could always try some of their cables for example, and at worst it will only cost you some postage to return them if not happy.

Hopefully the manufacturers of your CD player and DAC provided interconnects in the packaging along with instructions and remote control, mains leads etc. They will not supply you with cable that diminishes the performance of their product or fails to meet all industry, technical and UK/EU safety standards.

PMC do not advise exotic / expensive cables (just good quality, thick, multi-stranded OFC copper which can be obtained for a few £ per metre).

...or you could take the view that they are taking a pragmatic approach. Cable believers will want their own pet brand; and non believers will resent the extra cost of anything other than a cheap, simple interconnect.

Very very good point.

I should do a blind test with ca cables and once supplied with the kit

All interconnects are simple. It's just screened wire with plugs on each end, resistance, capacitance and inductance all too small to affect the signal. Putting sleeving over it with fancy plugs can't change the sound.

Thank you for nicely demonstrating my point.

It's not a believers vs non believers thing. You've got a group who are making unsubastatiated claims about performance enhancing cables, then you have those who do not. One camp has a belief, the other does not hold a belief but merely knows the science. It's like saying atheism is a belief.

For the sake of the OP, someone else suggested doing a blind comparison with freebie cables, this is a good idea.

It is if you are marketing an amp and deciding what free i/cs to include.

Is there anything wrong with using component rgb cables as audio interconnects?

As far as I can see, they look identical. Is there any difference at all?.

I have actually tried this, and yes they work perfectly fine as interconnects. However, the cable I used was really really thin, and I noticed occasional crackling when I wasn't playing music, this was very occasional though, must have something to do with it not being shielded I guess.

Animesh, it appears you so far have a larger percentage of tour replies from the no difference in cables camp.

My opinion is cables definitely do make a difference. 100% and I personally find it very easy to tell the difference between some cables I have used.

I used to use a couple of the various ca interconnects, this was nearly ten years ago. I upgraded to my atlas questor for about £45 and the sound quality definitely improved. I am very happy with these connects having heard the ca ones and also some ixus ones I had for £30 that sounded worse than the £20 ca ones.

Atlas interconnects always seem to get very good write ups around the £45 price point and I would totally recommend trying them. Like I said, I am happy with mine, and I wouldn't consider trying others unless I had a £5000 system.

Thanks for that.
It seems I have got a very busy/interesting weekend coming up.

Animesh,

If you have a sympathetic friend, try getting them to change the cables without you knowing which is being used. Not easy to arrange, which is why most never get to try it.

It is one of life's learning moments to find that the night and day difference between cables suddenly disappears when you don't know which one is being used.

Of course different interconnects can make a difference (as speaker cables do), just don't expect 'night and day' differences. They can act as very subtle tone controls, no more. Re-arranging your speakers will have a larger effect.

Don't let the theorists and google grazers put you off. - How boring it must be to have a 'scientific' answer for everything ...

Have fun and don't forget, the thing has to look good if you see the slightest bit of it. Actually, it has to look good even if you don't.

Lol.......

Try interconnects from QED between £20 to £40.

If you like your music aggressive try chord.

Enjoy the testing and comeback and let us know how you get on.

I (still) can't seem to post links (or pictures) on this godforsaken new website but I use Profigold Oxypure stereo interconnects myself.

Details on Profigold.co.uk

They seem to gone up in price though. Still they look the bees knees and sooooo expensive plus don't sound at all, meaning they seem to let everything through.

Do you really want to have those freeby cheapo looking 2mm cables dangling out the back when you can have a little hifi jewellery?

+ 1 for QED too. I have a couple and they seem good too.

Yep, lets have all of our electronics designed without the application of any scientific knowledge. (Good luck and double your home insurance cover.)

Or are you going to let the scientifically trained technicians provide answers for some things but not others? Which? Where do the voodoo priests, astrologers and other assorted entrail/tea-leaf/dream interpreters get to have their way once the scientists have made something work and made it safe? (Hopefully nothing that carries currents and voltages.)

You are right, it won't be boring. Lethal yes, but not boring.

Mmmhh, a little bit to generalized ... and out of context (interconnects) me thinks.

Never mind :)

It's all too ####ing weird!
