Does anyone know whether the above Cambridge Audio Bluray player and Receiver will become available again? The 650BD is only available at a few shops and the 650R seems to have disappeared, yet both are still on the Cambridge Audio website apparently as current products. Cheers!

Hi Patrick
In the UK, the exclusive dealers for CA are, as far as I know, Richer Sounds. They are still offering the 650BD, but you're right, the 650R seems to have dissapeared (although RS are showing them as available in some stores)very quickly after release. Perhaps because it's not got very good reviews? And the new CA 3D Blu-ray player's out now, so I guess they'll be pushing that rather than the 650.
I'm in a similar situation, I have a 650BD and have been looking for a 'matching' receiver. After much consideration, I decided to go for a Yamaha RX-V667, but I haven't yet had a chance to try it out.
Of course, if you especially want an all Cambridge setup, you could consider buying used; there seem to be a number of ads for 650R's (and the older units) on the usual websites.
Anyone on the forum from Cambridge Audio who'd like to comment on the situation?

If you're not too worried about some of the missing functions of the 650, I would personally recommend the 640R. I bought mine at a knock-down price and am very pleased with it so far, as it gets constant daily use; being hooked up to the TV for all its audio output and also my PC for iTunes...it's very musical and reliable. Although I haven't compaired the two units directly, from what I read, the older unit is actually a better amplifier than the newer one, especially in music mode...

Worth a look I would sugggest...

Thank you both. I think re the new 3D player, it'll probably be out of my reach, pricewise, desirable as it seems to be. I would like a Bluray player that can match my Oppo DV-980H in terms of SACD, DVD-A and HDCD playback. With DVD-A's and HDCDs I upsample them where appropriate via my Cambridge Audio 740C CD player which is where my enthusiasm for Cambridge Audio started. I am currently using a Marantz 4001 receiver, which I think gives a good, warm sound but lacks focus on the stereo front. So I am wondering whether to save up for an Cambridge Audio 840A, for example and use that for stereo music plus home theatre bypass as another manufacturer I'm interested in, Peachtree Audio, describe it.

Alternatively, think about the Yahama or indeed the 640R- both definitely worth considering, ditto used items. If the 640R is better in music mode that's encouraging as I would put music first before films.

Much appreciated!

Response from Cambridge Audio:

"The 650R is no longer distributed in the UK and the 650BD is as my colleague has advised with stock Richer Sounds have remaining.
Contacting your dealer to see what they have to offer for you would be your best option."

Richer Sounds Website shows around 35 650BDs left in stock across the country (none near me) so good luck anyone trying to buyo one outside the likes of eBay!

Does that mean that I might get healthy ebay etc resale price for s/h 650BD, if upgrading to 751 when it comes out?
That would make the upgrade a little less painful in the wallet :)
