Who could say no to NVG's?? There are so many applications (that I have invented in my head) for them.

Coming back from the pub, why fumble for a light switch when you can see in the dark??

On the price point, games are rarely released at full RRP. However I agree with you Richard, once you factor in the multiplayer, the £ per hour of play is very high!

I'm gonna rant at all these developers who seem to forget there are people out there who suffer from motion sickness, and 1st & 3rd person shooters are off the menu. I've never been able to play Doom, Tomb Raider, C.O.D et al, due to needing to hurl my lunch after 5 minutes.

But then came Resident Evil on the PS1. My salvation. Fixed camera angles meant playing for hours (and hours..... And hours) was no longer a problem. R.E.2 & R.E.3 just added new brilliance to the excellence of the original...... Until R.E.4. It became a 3rd person shooter... Nooooo!

All these wonderful games, and I can't play them........ Very, very annoying!

Sorry. Rant over. Please continue.....

The original is absolute classic. But clearly as it was one of the best selling games on PS3 they must have made a mint on it which means theres NO way im buying it at that price

I bought COD4 for the PC and because of my nephew ended up playing online which I was a little scared of doing. Didn't want to look a 'Noob'. I have since formed a clan with online friends of all backgrounds and similar not so young age as myself. Still playing and CODWaW. Treyarch have not made such a good job as Infinity Ward with the COD franchise.

Myself and my friends are very excited about MW2 but like others are a little upset with the price. The publishers Activision know they can get away with it and hence extort the customers. In my view it encourages software piracy. I will be buying the game legally.

However if you add up the hours that I've spent playing which runs into hundreds or more then you do indeed get good value. It all depends on whether the new game lives up to or exceeds expectations.

I must say that I was rather surprised to see this subject in the forums.

Surprised? We review games as well as music and movies in the magazine you know ; )

It's clear from these responses that there's more than a few of you playing Call of Duty too!

As we enter the months where the big games are finally released, you'll see the odd blog or two on the biggies...

Obviously no-one here remembers how much Super Nintendo games could retail for (£60-70) and that was fifteen-odd years ago. Looking at what you got from a game then and what you get now £55 seems like a bargain.

How about comparing it to another format? You'd probably pay a tenner for the new Arctic Monkeys' CD, how many man hours go into creating that? If it's even 5% of those that go into Modern Warfare 2 I'd be amazed.

I play games a lot, probably (definitely) too much

so rest assured that I will be getting life threatening amounts of value-for-money from my purchase and I won't be paying £55 for it!

Good point. Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting cost £69.99 at Comet in 1993. Granted it was a big (and expensive) cartridge but gaming is generally cheaper now. The same game can be downloaded for £6 today.

The bigger issue is the team behind COD MW2 is huge and the actual cost of making the game is several times the price of making a Wii game about flowers and mushrooms, for example.

We'll be posting gamertags up here as soon as the game comes out...and maybe some beta keys. Maybe.

My random musing:

Given the law of dimishing returns vs cost in HC equipment, most of us on here pay 000's for their equipment but quibble at a realtively small price hike on a game?

On a side note, Richard have you heard any news of when a beta release might happen or how its going to be done, so far I haven't managed to turn up much.

£55 is a bargain i and many others will buy this game and play it for years .

you have understand that with a game like this which all about online play there has got to be an on cost for maintaining servers and maintaining leaderboards etc.

no doubt the game wont cost this as most places are already advertising it for £40 - £45.

basicly its just publicity for a forthcoming game and no doubt activision are dipping there feet to see how much is too much.

i also remember paying £60 + for snes games.

no wonder nintendo managed to make it through the N64 and Game cube years!

Pre-ordering is a good idea, as there's nothing worth than seeing TV ads and it not being at your local store...

I think pre-ordering is definitely a bad idea nowadays. Take into account not only the postal strikes which mean that you're not guaranteed the game on release day, but also the supermarkets undercutting each other with prices that just aren't available online.

Case in point: I bought Fifa 10 from Shopto for 30 quid, it actually arrived 6 days after the release date. I ended up buying it in my local Morrisons for 26 quid on release day and returned the Shopto copy when it eventually arrived.

Not wanting to repeat the case, the fiancee has managed to pick me up a copy of MW2 from Morrisons for 26 quid this afternoon. Again this is quite a saving compared to the cheapest online prices.

If you definitely want to be assured of a copy at your local store, you simply pre-order (I did this at Blockbusters, just in case I couldn't get a copy at any of the supermarkets).

Anyway, very much looking forward to playing it this evening!

I own every COD game from 3 onwards and have to say they just keep getting better and better. COD 3 was an amazing game in its own right and COD WAW continued that trend.

MW2 has vastly improved on Call of Duty 4 MW in that there are many more online gaming modes..special ops is great..the story is epic and the sound and graphics are incredible when you play the game in high def.

The maps in the online modes are perfect..big, very detailed and very well thought out! MW2 sets a unprecedented bench mark which i believe few games will be able to reach.

A perfect game from an amazing series!

Virtually the entire test team disappeared into our home cinema room at lunchtime to play MW2. I suspect they may be there for quite a while.
