I already own the DacMagic, have the upgrade itch but don't want to spend a £1k.

As you've already got a DacMagic, rather than buy a Caimen and probably get similar performance, it may be better to have your DacMagic upgraded to a higher spec.

You say you have the 'upgrade itch'. Upgrades to your system will cost big money, IMO. You'd be better off getting different speakers than buying what I'd expect to be a subtle sideshift in presentation from a similarly priced DAC.

Or buy loads of music.
