I was told the other day that my cables would sound better plugged in one way round rather than the other. To the best of my knowledge the voltage travelling down the cable alternates between positive and negative, ie travels forwards and backwards. How then does the direction I plug the cable matter? I am confused!

Cables and fuses allegedly have 'directionality' and sound better one way round than another. I have not heard it and since the current is AC and goes both ways I am not convinced. But others disagree. Welcome to the forum!

A lot of cables seem to have directional arrows on them. It can't hurt to follow the advice IMHO.

Although I agree I can't see how it can make a difference. You'll find lots of threads devoted to this basic topic and many other HiFi snake oil subjects.

Hey, glad I am not the only one who thinks this is a bit funny. I am finding as I read more about hi-fi I am becoming more suspicious of some of the claims made. Certain things seem logical and reasonable, but some things seem to be almost made up. Its fun picking through though and I love the passion people have for sound 🙂

Plenty of snake oil in the audio biz, no argument. However, I try never to rule out something purely on it's theoretical unlikeliness. If the concept has any type of wide spread following, I will give it a try if I can do so at minimal expense.

some things that seem logical don't work out in practice, and the other way as well. ultimately the best thing anyone can do is listen, and make their own mind up. doesn't stop the squabbling though!

Confused? read your own post again, you are not confused but person who tell you about directional of cable seem to be.
