if MIT were paying SkyWalker it would be on the Sky Walker website

The other way around is the same as having mrs smith say thanks for a great job on my plumbing recommendation from a paying customer on your own plumbing website

I would personally hazard a guess if the interview is on the cable manufacturers website that the studio couldn't really give a toss and got free cables out of it. If it's on the studios website, then I'd be more inclined to believe they believed what they said.

Either way, doesn't matter, I was just interested to know if anybody knew if they were sourced or if they were given as it were.

I'm sure you could ring this lady and ask her. *biggrin*

that's really odd that website. Just after her name it says discount for some odd reason which is a hyperlink, which takes you to some viagra page!!!

But yes, just a standard spiel for a manufacturers website, nothing on the skywalker sound website itself. Either way, thank you (honestly) for providing the link, much apprecaited :)

And you had to click on discount for what ever reason?

most studios post a list of equipment they use. If they honestly thought it was important enough, it would be on the list is all I am saying.

straw man. Mrs smith doesn't have a website, nor a product to sell, so it's a pretty meaningless analogy imho.

You have got that the wrong way around - I didnt explain it correctly

A plumbing company will put mrs smith comments i.e. recommendation on their website - doesnt mean she didnt pay for the plumbing work and wasnt happy with the work - it actually means she was happy enough to write the comments for them. Thats the highest praise anyone can give a recommendation

ahh fair enough.

Either way though, once you start getting up to these types of levels, endorsements etc are all part and parcel of big business, so it's very difficult to work out with regards to a chicken and egg scenario, which is why I asked if anybody knew. As I said, usually, if a studio deems it of importance, they will put it on the equipment list.

Simiarly people that list their systems in their signature if they have good cables it gets mentioned in the sig - because its also deemed of importance to that persons system.

As Cheeseboys says, it's very hard to find Cables listed on the sites of recording studios, who have more important things they want to promote.

The only quotes I can find about the effect of cables, do come from cable websites.....so here are a few more.:

http://www.transparentcable.com/news/professionals.php?modCAT=4

It is impossible to know the extent to which this is marketing....and may come down to whether the studio paid a premium to have "better" cables......this is impossible to know for sure, unless you were there.

At the end of the day the claims of manufacturers still have to stand up to scrutiny and credibility of those customers who buy their products. So the extent to which it's marketing is a less important concern for me, certainly as you should always try cables at home before you buy.

There will always be doubters, they are entitled to their opinion (although when you tend to drill down you find out why for me), but if you find the claims of what cables will do, to be true on your listening, and they are of value, it's all that matters. I've never found a chord cable perform less well to the one below it.

what is your opinion on using the same brand of cables for all components, speakers, in my case let's say inakustik premiun (only cable not being inakustik is my van damme rca jumpers) if all components generally sound good, could there be some kind of synergy using same brand of cables? (once did that with supra) . Some things each cable have in common?

That might be true but I think choose them on what sounds best for any given installation as speaker cables tend to have the most bearing, as well as interconnects to a similar or lesser standard, with digital cables the least. So it's obviously not going to make any odds if it's hard to perceive different brands.

The link does not make any claims other than those you would expect of any respectable cable maker. Thus "They know that our materials and construction are the finest obtainable," does not actually say anything about the sound, just that the cables are well made. Isn't it odd that there are no specific claims?

Incidentally, a studio might use specific equipment because the adverts convince musicians that it is the best, so the studio buys 'the best' to ensure musicians are happy. Whether or not that is true, well, who knows.

Links were posted some time back quoting various people who were self proclaimed experts who failed blind testing for equipment they thought they could identify easily. Maybe that would also be the case for the people quoted on that web site, maybe not, we'll probably never know. So instead we will all while away the hours at our boring jobs posting nonsense on forums.

Anyway, cables strike me as a Robin Hood tax. Money is taken from the rich (customers) and given to the poor (dealers and manufacturers). Or something like that.

There were subjective descriptions of the sound of the cables, from people who should be good at assessing what they hear (if you take their comments at face value):

"Low level detail, dynamics, and effortless reproduction are just fabulous. I hate to say it but my other cables almost sounded a little compressed by comparison, the sound just seems to open up more. . . . I could swear I hear more extension in the top as well as the bottom.” (Roy Halee)

“The difference the cables made was amazing. Obviously cables can’t make the source signal better, but they almost always make it worse! Cables are a source of noise and other very audible distortions. They can limit resolution, dynamic range and distort the tonal balance. Transparent Audio makes fantastic cables because they understand how to eliminate the noise problems and create a neutral cable.” (Bob Ludwig)

There are certain rules that govern when a cable thread is over:

1. It has to go round in circles for a minimum of 100 posts.

2. Someone has to use the phrase, "Night and day difference".

3. The wife (or somebody's wife) has to have heard the difference from the kitchen.

3. The sceptics have to have used the words Gullible, Audiophool, Professional Audio, Snake Oil, Placebo and ABX test.

4. There has to be a tired cliche used about Printers, Kettles or Toasters.

5. Normally, I'd say a cable thread wouldn't become official until TrevC made a contribution, but even he has given up.

6. Somebody has to be called deaf and somebody else has to wave their technical qualifications about and use the words "Science" and "Impossible".

7. The OP has to have stopped taking an interest after the 4th page, while everyone else continues to argue....and nobody can change their position.

So, on these grounds, this thread has only just become a teenager....it still has to grow a beard, loose its hair, get arthritis and die.

CNo you can happily tick number 5 off your list now
