Hi!
I can't find a review of CA One on the site. Is it avaliable yet?
Today I had a quick audition of the above system. It was connected to KEF iQ3's with QED anniversary XT speaker cables (I think...) with airlocs.
It wasn't really a proper audition, since the speakers were not on stands. They were just beside the CA One on a book shelf. I also didn't have my iPod with me, so couldn't test that functionality.
The antenna isn't really the best looking one. And also I think it doesnt recieve the signal in the proper way. A lot of noise was present. The retailer said that this is just the interference with the building.
I couldn't test the DAB radio, since we don't have any channels here in Slovenia.
I have put an Eric Clapton CD in the unit. I was quite surprised at the performance of the system. I could say that it performs very well. I just missed a bit of high tones. But all in all I thought that the sound was great.
Another great thing is that you can put your USB stick in it, and it can read your MP3 files from the stick. I also didn't have a stick with me. This functionality is very welcome if you use it. But in my opinion it just wastes space on the front board.
Then you have 2 pairs of RCA inputs, one is paired with front board AUXin (3.5mm jack).
Then there is another SD card input. I really don't know who would still use SD cards rather than USB sticks (or CDs). But hey... there it is. Didn't tested it also.
The device also has 1 pair of RCA outputs.
One thing that bugged me alot is the time for switching between sources. You press the source button to get to the source you would like to have (CD,RCA1,MP3/RCA2,DAB,FM,SD). Then you have to wait a second so the device confirms your selection. And another second (or more if switching to CD) to switch to the new source. If your source is e.g. DAB and you want to switch to FM, you press source once. It says FM. 1 second wait.... device confirms... Display says DAB->FM.... 1 second wait... then you have your FM. I think that time would reduce with the usage of the remote. But in my opinion it would still be to long.
Anyway...I really liked the remote. It was pretty balanced and heavier than I would expect (in a good manner). The remote's position in the hand is very good. The design of the remote is rather minimalistic (which I like). It isn't too crowded with buttons.
I am sorry for mistakes in this text, but I am not a native speaker. And sorry for not auditioning the device properly. Since I was just picking up my DACMagic, I didn't have my iPod, test CD with me. And I was also in a shortage of time.
Best regards,
Nejc
