Buying M-DAC is SB Touch good enough?

The SBT's digital output was measured by Stereophile as part of their review. In conclusion they were "amazed". The full review is online and is well worth looking up.

I've tried a few different dacs with the SBT recently. Preferences were (from good to best):

- Caiman (+gator mod)

- HRT II+

- Rega

The big jump in quality was going from the Caiman to the HRT - I'd urge anyone with a dac with an asynch USB input to give it a go with the SBT. This is really quite easy to try, following recent work that has been done by "Triode" on the Squeezebox forums. I found there was a much better flow/organic feel via the HRT with much better "layering" of details.

I agree about the internal dac being good on its own, but compared with the HRT or Rega it sounds to me a bit thin, bright and slow.
