Hi alanbt
Assume you have a 42" G10 based on your comments. The lack of numbers on the G10 menu screens is a little annoying. I can share my settings, but these are after I have run the TV in for a reasonable amount of time, and the settings differ depending on which picture mode is in use.
According to one tecchie online review of the G10, the TV comes closest to industry standard in terms of colour reproduction via the 'normal' viewing mode, with colour tone set to warm. That said, I still think you get the most stable picture via the 'cinema' mode, and I have no issues with the way that colour is reproduced. The same tecchie review noted a 'mild red push' to the picture, and I guess you can notice this if you really look for it. Anyway, the settings I use -- and I'll stick with them after a fair amount of messing around -- are:
Cinema mode -- contrast 35 clicks; brightness 26 clicks; colour 27 clicks; sharpness 9 clicks; colour balance normal; all other picture enhanchment features off, except for the 'intelligent frame creation', which I leave on (though people seem to suggest this doesn't affect the picture at all, I think it delivers slightly more stable images when watching standard def freeview broadcasts).
Normal mode -- contrast 42 clicks; brightness 29 clicks; colour 22 clicks; sharpness 9 clicks; colour balance warm.
Game mode -- contrast 37 clicks; brightness 26 clicks; colour 24 clicks; sharness 9 clicks; colour balance normal.
Dynamic -- obviously never use this setting. It's bad for the TV and looks appaling in normal viewing conditions.
I use the cinema mode almost all of the time, though use the game mode for gaming (obviously). These settings were made using the free THX optimiser on the Wall-E blu ray. Not an exact science, but I'm happy with the results. Hope this makes some sense/helps...
