Hi all

I've just bought a new house and have a room 11x9 that I am going to have for music and books.

I've only ever had an all in one system- Denon. I've got a budget of £1500-£2000 to buy some new kit. Amp, speakers, CD, turntable and I have a Sonos already.

As a rank amateur I don't really know what I need, where to look and where to start really.

All help/suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

I would start by thinking about where you want to end up. You mention music and books .... are you sure you don't at some stage want to have a TV in the same room? A home cinema amp or something like a Sonos Playbar might be interesting for you to look at. You also mention a CD player, a turntable and a Sonos in the same sentence ... are you really set on a turntable and do you want a CD player as well as a streaming device? What about internet or DAB radio? And do you want to stream from a tablet or mobile phone through your hifi? Depending on how much music you have already accumulated in the form of CDs, vinyl or digital music (downloads/ripped CDs) you might be better off making your budget go further with a reduced set of priorities i.e. concentrating on one type of system and buying better quality components.

By the way which Sonos kit do you have?

Your budget is pretty much enough for a decent basic system. Which music do you prefer to listen and do you listen music from your pc/digital files?
