My mum just bought this CD player on my advice. However, she finds the upper frequencies too shrill. Does anyone have similar experiences? If so, was the remedy to leave it running for a while?

The rest of her system (Kenwood amp and Castle Richmond speakers) is 20 years old, but was working nicely with her old Marantz CD player before it gave up the ghost. So hopefully she won't need to fork out extra cash on upgrading it.

Any suggestions?

A twenty year old Kenwood amp should have tone controls (unless it's one of those minimalist jobs that omitted such useful features).

If so, turn the treble down a notch.

Some people believe DACs that a few days to burn-in, so give it a while see if it improves.

What was the old player?

Can't remember the model, but it was a budget Marantz.

I'll advise her to turn the treble down and give the new CD a few days to settle down.

Thanks for the advice
