I'm slowly (as my somewhat limited budget allows) putting together a HCS.  I have an Sony X series Bravia screen, and have just bought a Sony BDP-S350 Bluray player (which is superb).   I am considering a Sony STR-DG820 amp, but note that it has no upscaling capability.   My question is:   does this matter, with the excellent upscaling of DVDs through the BDP-S350?   I live in South Africa and have a HD PVR for satellite reception (although we have only 1 HD channel at present) and the picture on normal TV seems pretty good.   Can anyone help?

Thanks, and a Merry Christmas to you all

I wouldn't worry about the upscaling.

You've already got a good DVD upscaler, and the TV itself will have a decent upscaler for when it receives SD images. This should be a decent upscaler in the Sony, and you seem happy with the scaling of SD TV.

You may have to pay a fair bit to get an amp with a better upscaler than your TV, and I wouldn't let it influence your decision on amp too much.
