Hi, I'm hoping to get some informed advice?

I'm looking to get a home cinema set up on a small budget (around £400). I've been looking at the Sony BDV-E370 home cinema in a box package and the Boston Acoustics Soundware XS speakers. I'm not that bothered about having a bluray player at present, I don't buy many films and tend to download them through Apple TV or Lovefilm. Music is streamed through Apple TV.

Any ideas? Thanks.

For that amount of money it would be a budget system. Richersounds have a decent Onkyo with Speakers for about that price which i think does include HD audio

Probably only have 3 HDMI inputs max though

The Sony all in one which was reviewed in one of the magazines in last 3 months is in that price band and could be the one you mention. That would also be a good purchase

Hi Ronald, I was considering buying one or the other, not both. The question really is as I'm not fussed about getting a bluray player, which is the better, Boston or Sony?

Thanks, Matt

Hi f1only, I know that the Sony has bluray, I was really wondering which was the better performer out of the two products acoustically. I guess my best bet is to listen to them both. As their roughly the same price, it might just be that the Sony is better and includes the bluray player.

Thanks, Matt

If you go down the Sony route, you will have your blu-ray player, amp and speakers in one package - it is sorted.

Getting the Boston Acoustics speaker package will make it necessary for you to also get a separate av amp/receiver - this would be the 'separates' route and will no doubt offer a better performance, sonically, to an all-in-one system everytime.

A dedicated blu-ray player will also be required for picture.

Matt - I recently renewed my cinema setup. I got one of these: Sony STRDH800 and a set of these: Jamo Surround Speakers. All for under £400 and the result is great. You could add a Blu Ray player at a later date and in my opinion achieve a much better overall system than one of the all in one jobs.

A fantastic combo for the price!

I used to own the Jamo A012 and the STR-DG820 and they were excellent.
