Hi all.

My current set up consists of a home made HTPC, SKYHD and a Blu ray player all plugged in to a YAMAHA YSP800 Soundbar (+ YST SW320 Subwoofer) and an LG42600 LCD TV. The system is currently set up in the corner of a 4x5m room but I plan is to mount the TV above the fireplace and have bookcase/cupboards built in either side of the chimney breast. The soundbar sadly will not work in the new plan though, as the fireplace is rather tall, and the LG has a much bigger bottom than most TVs, so both cannot fit without either the TV or the Yamaha being too high for comfortable viewing.

I would therefore like to replace the Yamaha YSP soundbar with an AV amp and 2 pairs of Bookshelf speakers. A speaker for the centre channel is just not practical so will have to compromise on that until I get a new (slimmer) telly. I have a budget of around £600 to spend and would like an AV amp with 4 HDMIs. I also prefer a real bookshelf speaker rather than a sub/satellites set up. The system is used for primarily Television and movies, although I do partake in the occasional late night album or 2 I do have a separate studio with a pair of genelec 1031A for music but it would be nice if the lounge rig could carry a tune too. The YSP is sadly tone deaf in this department

On paper, I liked the look of the Yamaha RXV467, The Denon AVR1611 and various ONKYO offerings. However when it comes to speakers, I'm not sure where to look? I have a spare pair of Yamaha NS10s if they could be of use, but seeing as they are now discontinued, I cannot buy another pair for the rears.

Anyone have any suggestions to a good all round Av amp and some good quality budget bookshelf speakers... all for around £600?

Thanks in advance

I would consider an Onkyo AVR and MA Bronze combination (as I have myself). You may get a TX-SR608 and the BX2's just within your budget, but need to consider some decent speaker stands. If this is stretching it a bit, you can pick up some BR2's which I have for a bit less. with the Pure Audio function (switches off all unessesary processing), the Onkyo can knock out a mean tune IMO. Front ported MA Bronzes don't need lots of space around them which may suit your positioning.

Hope this helps,

Nick
