Here's my review of the venerable HM5 from Brainwavz. For $130 USD you wouldn't expect perfection, but it's darn close and with a slight tweak - perfect.

Good review :) These are excellent, Like you said it's the accessories that make it such a good deal and hard to beat. I think they sound good, not quite as superior as phones such as the DT770 or K550 but there is quite a price difference here in the UK. when you factor in the case, cables and the stylish look I would pick these over both the DT770 and K550! they are quite close in quality too.

I love the look! they remind me of mini Denon product, deep cups and nice finish; it almost has a flagship look to it imo.

A great review thank you for sharing.

I have been looking for a new pair of headphones to replace my AKG452 for use with my mobile devices. These do look a tad big for protability?

I also use AKGQ701 with my HiFi, I was thinking that the HM5s could also be used with this?. Or would i see a dramatic drop in sound quality compared to my Q701?

Any guidance appreciated

The HM5 is too bulky for portable use unless you carry it in the case and have a way to carry the case. Comparing to the Q701, the HM5 could be equalized to sound nearly as good, or in some cases even better if the EQ makes the signature more pleasant, but whether it would equal the Q701 in low distortion or precise tonal qualities I don't know.

Thankd for the reply.

I am now looking at 4 options. I have the AKGs which are very good but sometimes its good to have an alternative sound every now and then so i suppose i am looking to buy a second pair for portable use, I will probably invest in a portable hi-res device when they become mor commonplace and more affordabel, so they will be used for this also.

I also would like them to be good enough to use with my main hi fi.

Considering

Denon AHD600

Beyer DT770 PRO

Yamaha MT220

Yamaha HPH PRO 300
