The Bose sound dock sucks! Big time! Expensive and pants! Id sooner save my money and...i dont know buy a goodmans mini system.

I can understand choosing Bose speakers if one is very short of space etc. (or blind in the case of their 'floorstanding' 901s). Otherwise for the money they do not seem worth it.
On the other hand, the Bose system that came fitted to my car is pretty good. In comparison with the bog standard rubbish that is in most cars anyway...!

Yes but if you hadn't had that system, and were looking to put another in, the chances are you wouldn't get a Bose.....too expensive for what it is and a lot of specialists don't/can't sell them anyway. Same probs as their non ICE lines.

In car system are a clear cut above the generic stuff IMHO
I knew a bloke some years ago who kitted his whole house out with Bose to have multi-room before it was the norm and it sounded great at parties. Speakers were tiny in those days as well. Quite amazing sound for the size of the speakers IMHO.
I guess the big question is do Bose have a VFM stereo speaker set-up that you'd choose over the competition at a given price point? I suspect the answer is no they don't. They have great solutions for a lot of situations but the solutions are a slight compromise for those seeking the best stereo experience. IMHO
Only B&O experience I had was years ago with a system my Dad bought and a system pre-installed in a holiday flat I bought (several years later) In both cases the memory is of unreliability / fragility. The kit looks amazing though!

Bose are fine for what they are; unobtrusive, decent sounding, lifestyle speakers and there's a huge market for them. However, audiophiles are prepared to buy ugly in pursuit of the holy grail, and it does make a huge difference to the trained ear. I personally, would never consider a Bose system as that lifestyle element is not what rocks my boat, I prefer some big f**koff floorstanders and a rack of equipment and loads of cables, to some teeny, subtle half-baked system anyday. Otherwise iPod/Bose/Squeezebox/Sonos etc for 80% fulfilment musically.

Their kit is gorgeous. It sounds fantastic, but then it should. It costs twice as much as it should for how it sounds. You're paying for the design. In some ways it's worth it. Some of their systems are genuine design classics. Their old systems still look amazing today and sound great. My experience of B&O is that their kit (used) to be amazingly well made. I hope it still is.
However. When a company tries to sell a 50 inch plasma screen for £10,000 in the current market and suggests that by sticking a stainless steel surround around someone else's panel, that it's better than a Pioneer plasma (which costs £2,500 and wipes the floor with it), then I'm sorry, but I think they're deluded and slightly mad. That's exactly what I tend to think about anyone with any B&O kit these days. It's for very rich people, for whom the design is probably more important than the sound, even if the sound is very good.
B&O only falls down on value for money, IMHO. And they fall a very very long way.

To be honest I haven't listened to a B&O system for a little while - but over the years I've heard plenty (a rather well uncle has a very pricey B&O set up for example) - never been impressed.
So the Bose thing is mainly price then? My 301s take up very little space, sound great and were a gift so suit me fine!
In fact the new system has got me sifting through my CD collection, listening to at least an album per day partluy because I just love the sound so much. Rip off, poor quality, whatever - it's seriously re-ignited my love for good music and that's largely due to the fantastic sound.
