Bose or Senheisers?

Hi

Am now looking to updrade my iPod headphones. I'm currently using Sen CX500's and looking for an improvement next. Can anyone recommend next steps? Currently considering Bose in ears or or one of the Senheisser IE range (though this seems a steep step up in cost!)

All my music is Apple Lossless so I'm looking or something that will suite for quality. I've also considered the possibility of putting my life in danger (rampaging better half!) by coughing up for some Klipsch x10's.

Any advice?

Cheers

I'd try the Grado iGrados. They sound almost as good as the SR-60 or 80 models. I guess it depends if you don't mind wearing something that obvious and - if you listen to loud music in a public place- there is a bit of sound leakage which could be a problem. Definitiely worth considering, though. I love mine.

HI

Thanks, I'd considered those as I use SR60's in the house. Unfortunately that means I'm also aware of the sound leakage and assumed the iGrado's would have the same issues. I sometimes use my In-ears to listen when the Good Lady is about as the SR60's leak more than my bank account! :) hence my requirement for something of at least the same quality.

Preferred music is The Who, Zeppelin, Free etc, so something that'll not get me kicked off public transport too would be good :)

Have a look at shure headphones. i,ve got two pair with no problems, they fit like a glove and sound great.

Go on amazon they sometimes have good deals on all types of headphones.

My Sennheiser HD595 beat my old Grado 125s - IMHO they are much warmer.

For in-ears the Shure SE530 take a lot of beating - especially if you use a high bit-rate to record stuff with (or lossless)

Fit snugly and hence keeps a lot of external noise out - various spongy/rubber attachments help the fit for your ear canal .......

Got mine from Amazon ..... good price...

We currently are in danger of strangling ourselves with headphones cables, so many are the models we're testing right now!

Rest assured that our Awards next month will feature an entire section on headphones, with the best in-ear and over-ear designs (plus wireless and noise-cancelling models) named at a range of price-points.

Can't wait!

PS to the OP, having visted various music stores such as Apple and HMV where they have both Bose and Sennheisers on display to try, my vote goes to the Bose. They rock and I find them more comfortable to wear. I know my wife is very tolerant of sound leaking, but there are times when she would be happier if I had closed back cans. So some Bose are my most likely next purchase.

EDIT, sorry realised you are talking about in ear stuff, cant stand shoving things in my ear!

My current favourites are the new Apple In-ears (coupled with a set of Sony Hybrid ear tips).

Straight out of the box the Apples sounded terrible (as I couldn't get a good seal with any of the enclosed ear tips) and I was about to throw them away when I stumbled on the headfi forum and it was recomended that I keep the ear phones and simply replace the tips.

What a difference; this pairing is fantastic (to my ears).

The Bose are fine if you like bass but for me it is too heavy. They do improve with use but I binned 'em and went with Westone UM1 which are way better and by far the best fitting headphones I've used.
