Hi

After 20 years my seinneisher headphones needed replacing - saw Bose headphones in local shop - listened in store and bought them. Got home unwrapped and tried to use them with my Marantz PM-55SE Amp and Marantaz DR6050 cd player and couldnot. Using a headphone jack - only got sound in one ear and that was terrible. I am a complete novice and would like some advice. I now believe these are for use with portable audio equipment MP3s' etc (they do work with my computer). and nowhere on the packaging does it say that they are for MP3 or ipod etc etc (I don't own one). Because I opened pack the shop will not take them back. I paid £119 for these headphones. I also phoned Bose technical helpline - the guy I spoke to was unhelpful just referred me back to Marantz - said I should contact them - so no technical help there!..

So, can someone please help me - is it the jack plug?

My guess it might just be the Headphone Jack - i thought BOSE would be able to send out a replacement. Or the shop should replace?

Where did you buy from?ÿ

Return them to the shop, with the packaging and your recipe and they are required by law to exchange or give you a refund, under the 'Sale of goods act,' as the contract of sale is with you and the shop and not with Bose, although they sale Bose equipment. The packaging has nothing to do with the item inside,as it is the item inside that you bought and that item does not meet your requirements. If they refuse to act upon your request, then inform them that you will be contecting your local Trading standers officer(they will have the address) to make a formal complaint, as they have not acted in accord with the Sale of goods act, on saying this most retailers will be happy to help, as they don't like the bad publicity and in this day of credit crunching they will be glad to make as many sales as they can and keep their customers happy, or they have forgotten the best advertising that a shop can have and that is by word of mouth. Regarding headphones buy a pair of Alessandro's.

Mahler - this is an old post, but I feel that I have something to say on the matter, as attitudes such as the one you have expressed here, personally irritate the life out of me and I would like to use my right to exercise my opinion openly.

You are incorrect in your advice to the originator of this post. Just contact the trading standards bureau yourself on 08454 04 05 06 and they will tell you so.

You would have been correct had it been the case that the point of sale / dealership been declining their responsibility as the warranty representative on behalf of the manufacturer of the goods in question.

HOWEVER - it is not the case that the goods are faulty, as it seems to have been proven from the originators initial post that the goods do work for their designed purpose, which is to operate from a pre-amped source. JASPAR did note that the headphones worked properly with his PC, and did not indicate the fault (one one channel of audio delivered to the headphones) being present with the PC

The problem that exists here is possibly more to do with the amplification circuitry OR the Jack output of the amplifier or CD player as indicated by BOSE. It is usual in most cases that CD players and Amps both feature Pre-Amplifiers at the headphone port.

Think about it - PC delivers Results adequately as expected. The HiFi does not. Nothing is wrong here with the headphones at all. JASPAR did receive signal in one ear but not the other. It's simple signal logic. BOSE were correct to recommend Marantz to JASPAR, or even a service centre to check out the signal from the jack outputs.

Sale of goods act does not come anywhere near the issue above here, it's just something that people like you Mahler like to throw up in the air as a scare tactic to retailers, because either you don't get your own way and you like to throw the toys out of the pram... or you just simply choose to remain ignorant about a field of technology that in all likelyhood you profess to your mates that you are an avid enthusiast wannabe expert in.... but the truth is that you refuse to understand simple logic.

The retailer would only be incorrect if they refused to make a return / exchange / initiation of warranty procedure on behalf of the customer to the manufacturer.

I hope this gives you insight, or provoked thought to make your own questions and that you call the trading standards people and learn from them. (ask for Jacqui - she is the most knowledgeable there).
