Can someone explain this obsession from (mainly) British hifi brands to release gear with support for Bluetooth AptX? I totally fail to see the point in this. Rather release an amp with a proper on board DAC.
Anyone experience with AptX and also rather enthousiastic about it?
I think you might be referring to the Cyrus One et al. I also think it's a strange decision not to support a digital input in addition to wireless streaming, but hey ho.
IMHO, Bluetooth (either normal SBC, AAC codecs or apt-x) support in amps is a welcome things on two counts:
1. Even with a dedicated streaming setup or other fixed source you might want to stream from your phone or PC e.g. to listen to internet radio / streaming service / You-Tube clip etc. You might have been listening to something on your phone as you walk into your house and want to seamlessly transfer to your amp.
2. When you have guests or have a party, you can easily share someone else's music from their phone without resorting to plugging in cables or giving them access to your home network.
PS .... I've got all my amps wired up to some apt-x Bluetooth receiver, and I try to make sure any wireless speakers I buy also come similarly equipped. My phone is apt-x and I've got a couple of apt-x transmitters for my PCs. I can perceive the extra quality of apt-x over normal Bluetooth - it sounds less dull.
