It depends which Blu Ray player you have. My Pioneer is very sensitive to any marks on discs, so I can only play new, or as new discs, so no rental discs for me.

Only thing to do is update your firmware to the latest one, and only play scratch and finger print free discs.

So as yet we have no idea what discs you are having issues with.

So general fixes update your firmware. Make sure the disc is not damaged.

Or just provid more info on what the discs are that you are having isusses with then people can see if they are ones that are known to have problems or if they had the same problems how they fixed t.

All I can say is that I have not had anny issues with any discs.

Exactly the same issue reported above, random freezing, even on totally spotless, scratch free disks, on a Blu-ray player with the latest software. Not impressed.

It drove me so mad that on more than one occasion I've nearly ripped the BDP out of the rack and thrown it out of the window. It's fine with DVDs, so that's what I'm sticking with for now.

I'm another one of the lucky ones - never had any issues playing any Blu-rays (apart from a couple from Lovefilm which were covered in fingerprints!).

Am now desperately touching any wood I can find

I've had the same problem with rental discs on 3 separate occasions now. Never happened on any of my owned discs though. Pioneer bdp320 latest firmware.

Hello gentlemen,

I have a Denon DBP2012UD player (850euro) which during playing a blu ray (only dual layer) it freezes the picture at the end of the movie (5 minutes from the end!).

I have 70 original BR movies and I tried to make copies of them.

I have burnt 40 blu ray discs (25GB-six different brands) and they played perfect.

I have burnt 30 blu ray discs (50GB) and 5 played perfect and 25 freeze almost in the end.

Those "defective" 50GB discs,on the Img burn veryfication succeded 100% and on 2 cheap BR players (50euro) worked perfect.

On the other hand my Denon player plays PERFECT ALL THE ORIGINAL 25-50GB movies.

It plays all 25GB copy BR discs and imagine I see all the 50GB movies until the end (some times they last 2 hours!) and I can't see the end.

*My BR burner drive is LG BH10LS30 and burn speed always X2.

I used to have loads of problems with my pioneer lx54 ( I think that's the right model number)

after months of waiting for software updates I exchanged it for the marantz 7007 and I've never had any issues, no freezing, refusal to play discs nothing.

is your problem a specific disc or a distributor ie Warner or Universal.

i had loads of problems with discs like inception, sound drop outs etc

My Oppo 83 has never had any problems with any bluray, including Inception. I had one DVD that would not play, but that was due to children's fingerprint and easily fixed.

All I want from any player is to put any disc in the tray and it plays..........

thankfully with the marantz that the case but why do we have to pay large sums of money for something so simple

To all of those that have posted about their trouble free play back on your Blu ray players - brilliant, you have been lucky.

But, this does happen on various players / different brands all of the time. So to think that it does not ever happen is just being a bit naive. You just need to trawl this Blu ray sections forum and you will find loads of examples of this.

My advice, if it is still under warranty (your player) would be to take it back to where you bought it to get a replacement if possible. This seems to happen on an alarming occurance. Never had these issues with dvd players (well certainly not as much). All electronics go wrong from time to time, so many different components that could be at fault.

I speak from experience and I am not slagging off the format, some have been lucky and others like myself and the posts above have not. My Panasonic BDP 500 was awful (a flagship player) as was my Sony BDP S370 (do a search on this forum and it is not just me). I replaced my Panasonic with a 790 and so far it has been faultless but it is still early days, the 370 is in our bedroom so not such an issue.

This makes an interesting read - and panasonic still have not returned the player fixed to Richer Sounds weeks and weeks on (pop in regularly to local store).
