If I connect Pana BD55 direct to Pioneer TV using HDMI lead, its 1.3a (TV accepts this), but if I decide to just use this lead into an AMP, my amp is not 1.3 is 1.1. Do I still use 1.3a ?

Any comments on which is best?

1. HDMI to TV and analog to AMP
2. HDMI only to amp.

Not worried about how many leads are there.

Can't play yet, as the shop has ordered it from Panasonic, so a few days yet.

The versions no longer have any bearing on the cables, only the equipment. The cables are now speed rated as cat 1 or cat 2. See the FAQ at hdmi.org or the excellent FAQ at bluejeanscables.com.

Does your amp support LPCM via HDMI? If it does (You didn't specify the make/model no.), I would connect the HDMI to the amp, decode in the player (set to LPCM) and enjoy and forget about HDMI versions. Deep colour etc. is a bit of a nonsense anyway imho. Obviously if your amp doesn't support HDMI audio, then you will be forced to use analogue multi-channel output if you want to hear HD audio formats.
