That’s the part I don’t quite get. How to access the higher resolution layer. I’m sure I read that some of these were created to hold several CDs worth on one disc, like a super long-player. Have you seen those, or was imagining it?
You just select the audio track required from the menu on screen or my Sony Blu Ray player has an Audio button on the remote control that enables you to switch between them. I have a number of the Steven Wilson Yes remixes which contain multiple versions of the album, remix, instrumental mix, original LP mix, needle drop version, 5.1 surround mix etc etc and they are now being reissued with Dolby Atmos surround mixes too.

I have no surround listening capabilities but its sometimes worth buying these sets for the stereo remixes alone. However if you are buying hi res discs or downloads for older music that was not recorded in hi res in the first place then you are unlikely to hear a difference because the audio range is just not there to start with. Hope that makes sense.

The Yes Blu-Ray audio discs were probably the best example I've seen of how this can be done well and I've all of their classic era reissue for this reason alone. I'm less fussy about Steven Wilson's remastering efforts, but having the reissue, the original mix, the original vinyl needledrop and various other add ons is terrific. Fish is another that used his remaster deluxe sets to include bonus content and a decent length interview documentary too (60 mins or more) or a live gig.

While I've several B_R Audio discs, the ones with the album only seem like a huge opportunity missed. Operationally, it's fine, same principle as DVD-Audio discs really from an interface perspective.
