Hello, I'd like to make a post in this section of the forum but am getting blocked by the spam filter. I've reported the block and tried adjusting my post text with no success (the post is a genuine request for advice, I hasten to add). Does anyone have any advice on how not to trigger the filter? Thanks and apologies if this post should sit in another section.

Further tinkering with my post text discovered that the spam filter didn't like the word "s-c-r-a-p" - presumably it triggered a profanity rule.

Many of us regulars have had similar occurrences. It seems rather random to me, as it sometimes baulks at a harmless link, then a few days later you see a load of spam from a foreign university!

Better avoid talking crap!

I'd better not talk about my trip to Scunthorpe then!

Most properly-implemented profanity filters should allow the webmaster to block offensive words when they're used without also blanking entirely innocent words which have such terms buried within them.

Thus even people who live some eight miles west of Barnsley should be able to identify their location, if they so wish.
