JohnNewman:So what gives the best results...biamping or bridging?

It's impossible to generalise - it varies from speaker to speaker. One responding best to lots of power will benefit most from bridging, while those showing improvements when biwired will be even better when baimped.

Andrew Everard:

Of those two I'd probably go for the X-Ray V8.

Andrew gosh you guys start early; of those two suggests your thinking that something else would be an even better match....... I'm open to suggestions and think I've found a shop that may let me borrow for a weekend

I'd probably start with something like the Marantz CD6002, which is a remarkable player for the money, and work my way up

Thanks Andrew. Looking forward to ordering either 875 or 905 now :O)

And at £200ish as cheap as chips (in terms of price); my only problem is that a certain someone has ditctated that I get one bite of the cherry as we have "other" things she wants me to concentrate on for a while (can't quite understand what is more important then my HiFi experimention myself).

Therefore whilst I've a budget of around £750 I'll only get one go so may as well start a bit further up the upgrade tree then the Marantz. This is why I was looking at the CD36 and X-Ray (also having heard the X-Ray on a pal's system thought it sounded really great but his set up is totally different to mine (More HiFi then home cinema)).

Well in that case go for the X-ray, or the Yamaha CD-S1000, which I've just been reviewing for Gramophone and has a lovely smooth yet detailed sound
