Bi-amp front speakers - will stereo mode still work?

I am waiting for delivery of the Integra 30.2 amp and 685 theatre set of speakers. Because I have not got them yet, I have plenty of time to ponder... [😀] I plan to bi amp the speakers and bi wire them too. My thinking is that one channel of the amp will power the Low Frequencies and the rear amp channel will be reassigned to power the High Frequencies of the 685. Is this correct?

Anyway, I have a collection of CD's that I still wish to listen to, so in stereo mode, will the bi-amping / biwring still work or will the amp only use the 'first' channel of the receiver?

I hope this makes sense, or have I got it all wrong?

I can't see how you can bi amp AND bi wire.

Presumably when you set up your system the speaker output for the front mains will go to one set of terminals on the speaker and the re-assigned rears will go to the other set. So where does the bi wiring come into it?

As for the problem with stereo sources, I can only think that if you set the amp in stereo mode the signal will bi-pass the processor, so you will lose the output from the rear surround.

Thanks Chudleighpaul. I think I got myself confused. What you say is what I want to do. I want to reassign the rear speaker's amp to the front channel.

So if I lose the output from the rear surround in stereo mode, that means I gain nothing from bi-amping. Or is there a way I can play CD's that take advantage of the 'bi-amping'?

I think you will have to wait and read the instructions for the amp, but my gut feeling is that you will have to play stereo sources through the processor if you are not to lose the output from the re-assigned rears.

I have my Onkyo Biamped (Onkyo and Integra are related 🙂 and when I listen to stereo mode or pure audio, the Biamping still functions correctly.

I will need to read the manual to confirm, but that's really great news! Yes, Onkyo and Integra are siblings...

It would be utterly ridiculous for the bi-amping function to be disabled in stereo mode as it would effectively render the stereo mode useless.
