Have the Main Grills off on my 805s, tweeter grilles stay on, have not noticed a difference sonically they just look gorgeous without them on.

jase fox:If any of the WHSAV team are reading this , when you review speakers, do you review them with the covers on or off?

Where the grilles are removable, we try both. Should there be significant differences between the two, which can be caused both by the grille fabric and diffraction effects from the grille frame, we will comment on them.

IME I have almost always found that speakers with removable grilles sound better with the grilles off.

Thanks for that Andrew, i take it you also review centre & surround speakers with & without the grilles? If so, is your result the same for those that there better with the grilles off?

I see that some MA users have removed the metal grille from the tweeter.......had a look at my BR2's and it appears not to be removable. Gave it a quick tug to check but didnt want to force it. Can anyone say wether the BR2 grille comes off or is it fixed.

Personally I wouldn't bother messing with that. I don't think it will make much difference anyway.

I prefer listening with the grilles off, but always put them back on to protect my speakers when I'm not listening.

If theyre the same as mine then theyre magnetic (ie ~ they will come off)

Though Ive kept mine on as one of my cats once jumped on the speaker and when she jumped off took the grille with her paw! Had it not been on she may have killed the tweeter as theyre very fragile

hum...cats love curtains and sofas...that reminds me never to get a cat near the speakes.thanks very usefull info.

My Sony "bedroom" system sounds better with the covers off. Th Dalis downstairs sound and look better with them on IMO. Plus, as mentioned above, cats think speakers are an "interesting vantage point" so it's worth protecting them.
