Better scaler - Pioneer 5090 or Onkyo 876/906?

Hello people! I came across an old post last night where Clare mentioned she uses the Onkyo 906 to upscale content to allow her to sit closer to her projector. She also mentioned that the scaler in the Pioneer 5090 is a great scaler for SD pictures.

Does anyone have experience of having seen both scalers in operation so they can say whether one is better than the other?

I seem to remember a test of scalers a few months back, but have moved house and have no idea where that copy is.

I'm looking at broadcast television (FreeSat) upscaling.

If the Onkyo's scaler is better I would spend more on one of their new amps (when they appear) to get the scaling.

If the Pioneer is better I will spend less and see if I can get my mits on the Pioneer before they all disappear.

Thanks in anticipation.

u will get a decent scaling from both pioneer & onkyo , but the onkyo has more tweaking possibility in term of vedio equalization , however if u realy want the best scaling result then nothing can beat a stand alone upscaler.
