Dear all,

I am looking to upgrade my home cinema system and wanted some advice on what you all would consider to be the upgrades from which I would get most benefit, given my type of use.

I currently have the following in a small living room:

Yamaha RX-V359 Amp, Kef 1005 Speaker System, Toshiba SD-360E DVD Player, Sky HD, Apple TV, Toshiba 37WLT66 Television.

I am not a huge movie watcher, but do enjoy a few films a month. I tend to use my surround kit for either sport (particularly football) or the big US entertainment series on Sky. I am a keen listener to music, and have my Apple TV containing plenty of lossless music.

I have between £500 and £1000 to spend on an upgrade or two and wonder what people would suggest represents best value for money to see a decent performance gain? I was thinking either a new TV or speakers, but I'm open to ideas!

Cheers,

Mark

Looking at your set up yes, you could benefit from getting a new tv first. If you only watch a few movies your money would be better off spent on a decent stero amp and speakers, also you could go for some Q Acoustic 1030i floorstanders and centre speaker with a Yamaha ax863se amp and add sub and rear speakers later. I would upgrade the tv first then amp and finally speakers, may a blu-ray player further down the line and rent from Lovefilm.

I have got to agree with lobby personally I would start with the TV, I've got a WLT66 in my spare room and TV's have come a long way in a short time. I'd recommend Panasonic 37S10, one of my biggest gripes with the WLT66 is the viewing angle, only 2-3 foot off center and the picture starts to look bleached

That TV will set you back around £700, as you play your music from Apple TV and don't really have any hi fi separates needing analgue connections I would recommend the Sony STG820 which I recently picked up for £220 and I have got to say that I think it sounds great with music too and you can get rid of one more cable!

Thanks for the advice. I think it's a trip to get my hands on the new issue so I can read the 37" supertest then!

Cheers
