What with the process of buying a full home cinema/ music set up being so confusing i thought i would ask you guys what would be the best all round system that uses the Onkyo 875 at its heart and to expand on what i should be looking out for over and above what i have already short listed:

What would be the best speaker package for the receiver?? Both musically and for films. (Budget up to £2,300) I read in this months what hi fi that the onkyo would go well with the tannoy revolution sig, but will they be too bright with music? (a word of warning was given for careful pairing for the larger floor standers in the range)

What would be the best CD player?? (budget up to £800)

My room is 4.4 x 5.1m.

Cyrus CD6SE has been proclaimed "the finest CD player in the history of the format", or very similar. And yours for bang on £800.

However......Check out eBay, where the £900 Arcam CD192 is available brand new for £500......Definitely worth a look.

Go demo the B&W 684/683 packages. SHould sound great with the Onk.

cheers chris. have been reading about the problems with the cirus so may hang on untill they are resolved eh.

Have listened to the 684's on the onk 805 and thought they were good untill i heard the detail revelaed by rega r5's which has lead me to want something a little more detailed than the B&W's at this point in time.

Anyone else have a view on the original post?

Monitor RS's sound excellent with the 875. In terms of CD player, the advice I received was that unless I was going to bridge my front speakers via a decent hi-fi amp, I would be wasting my money in buying an expensive CD player. I opted for the Arcam 73, which I could upgrade to the 192 later if I do decide to buy a dedicated hi-fi amp, and decided to bi-amp my front speakers - results of which are very good.

I'm very happy with all my kit...
